The main objective in the game of badugi is to get the lowest hand. Aces are low in this game and are also the most powerful cards. Kings and face cards make up the worst hand in the game. Getting the lowest hand is not the only goal of the game though. Players need to make a hand that contains no matching values or suits. So if you have a pair of something or a small flush that consists of two cards of the same suit, than this hand loses value because one of the cards must be removed. We will explain how to rank particular values of cards and hands next.

The general premise is that badugi is a lowball poker game very similar to triple draw lowball, where the lowest hand wins. Straights are not counted at all, and aces are considered the low card, not the high card. By the time you showdown your cards you will want to have 4 low cards, all of different suits, and no pairs. THE ROYAL FLUSH -The rarest of the rare, the Royal Flush is composed of the 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace of the same suit.

STRAIGHT FLUSH -The rarest of all, the Straight Flush requires 5 sequential cards of the same suit.

FOUR-of-a-KIND -Sometimes called Quads, this hand is made of 4 cards of the same value. The higher value quad wins if two players are both holding four-of-a-kinds, or the Kicker will if players share the same group.

FULL HOUSE -This is one of the strongest Poker hands. A Full House consists of a Three-of-a-Kind and a Pair. Colloquially known as Boats, when two come up against each other, the higher set wins, and if the sets are shared, the value of the Pair comes into play.

FLUSH -This hand has 5 cards of any order that come from the same suit. They’re ranked by the highest cards in the suit, but the suits are not ranked. If two players have the same High Card, the Kicker decides who wins.

STRAIGHT -Whether you’re playing a 5- or a 7-card Poker variety, a Straight is 5 cards in sequential value of any combination of suits. There are low straights where the Ace has the value of 1, also known as Wheels, and high straights, where the Ace comes after the King, called Broadways.

THREE-of-a-KIND -Also known as a Set, or Trips, Three-of-a-Kind is when a player has 3 cards of equal value. The Kicker decides the winner in a match-off between two players with the same Three-of-a-Kind.

TWO PAIR -Two Pair Hands see players boasting two separate groups of cards of the same ranking. If two players get Two Pairs, the one with the highest single pair will win, or the Kicker will decide who takes the pot.

PAIR -A Pair is formed when two cards of equal value are found in a hand. This hand is very common in 7-card Poker games.

HIGH CARD - If no one in the game can create a hand,  the person holding the High Card will take the pot.If the board shows cards stronger than any player’s Kicker, the hands will draw and Ties will split the pot.

Badugi is a poker variant in which the object is to end up with the lowest four-card hand.
